Agreement on Automall: DeLand deals with Lake Helen, developer

DeLand, Lake Helen and the developer of the nearly $100 million I-4 Automall have reached agreement on some of the major issues that have left the sister cities at odds in recent months.

This week the DeLand City Commission voted to approve on first reading a binding settlement agreement, proposed by the developer’s attorneys, which would give DeLand control over the western portion of the Automall’s 57-acre property and Lake Helen the eastern portion with DeLand providing utilities, at a 25-percent surcharge, to the entire development. A second and final reading is July 16.
